Villa Wojciechowo was built in 1922 by the Szober family (Professor Stanisław Szober - a renowned specialist in Polish studies. One of his books was "Grammar of Polish", published in 1923). While on his summer stays in Zakopane, Professor Szober would examine his students, which is why the villa was nicknamed Grammar.
As his family said, Professor also worked here on his research studies. After the war Wojciechowo was impounded from the Szober family by the State Treasury Dept. and then used by the State Company Holiday Operator (FWP). The name was changed from Wojciechowo to Sfinks II. This continued until 1989.
Heirs of the family succeeded in recovering the house, but it was left unoccupied. With nobody to look after it, the house suffered from fire three times. In 1994 and in such condition, the house was sold to its current owners. It was then modernised and nearly completely rebuilt based on an architectural design of Anna and Marek Skorupski.
The architecture of the house, alluding to the Zakopane region style, speaks for itself. This is clearly one of the most beautiful houses recently built in Zakopane.
Two important items of the old Wojciechowo, unconsumed by the fires, include an ornamented wooden floor beam marked with the year 1922 and a club room with an original arched window. Wojciechowo is nicely located on the slope of Mount Koziniec, by a tourist route and adjacent to "Willa pod Jedlami".
Wojciechowo offers splendid views of the Tatra Mountains. Located fairly conveniently away from a busy street, it ensures good conditions for rest. At the same time, the house is very close to the city centre on one side, and to Kuźnice - where most Tatra routes start - on the other side. Ski lifts on the Koziniec slope are located in the direct vicinity of Wojciechowo.
